Beaches

Geographe Bay is known across the world for its spectacular turquoise bays with white sandy beaches that can only be believed once you are here. The bay is a wide curve of coastline mostly facing north meaning it’s protected by Cape Naturaliste and thus, is sheltered from afternoon trade winds in summer making the bays such as Dunsborough, Meelup, Eagle Bay and Bunkers Bay picture perfect and a popular destination for recreational boating, fishing and family beach trips. It’s also a well-known whale watching destination with many species of whales choosing to rest in the sheltered bays during migration.

Sun and Moon-rising over the Ocean

.

A unique aspect of Geographe Bay is the capacity for you to watch the sun rise over the ocean in the morning and then see the sun set over the ocean at Yallingup Beach! This interstellar-type interaction can only be experienced at few places across the globe. Throw in watching the full moon rise over Meelup Beach (which traditional meaning is ‘place of the rising moon’) plus, star gazing into some of the clearest skies on the planet, and you’ve got yourself a full on out of this world spectacular!

Fishing.

Fishing along Eagle Bay and surrounding beaches is well worth the effort. The bay offers up herring, tailor, skippy and King George whiting and salmon (during the salmon run). You can also pick up blue swimmer crabs during crabbing season and roe abalone off the rocks around Bunker Bay. It’s as simple as fishing off the beach or from the rocky outcrops in and around Eagle Bay, and, Dunsborough has a boat ramp from which you can launch a boat if you want to head further afield.
